General UO Chat / IDOCs Shenanigans
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:51:04 AM »
What can you do vs a guy like this?!?

I've been to about a dozen IDOCs in the past month and two of those had some pretty amazing rares in them. One of them was old-school and had things like a named wedding contract and the other had more recent but still rare or hard to get/expensive items like the purple 250m paintings and stuff transffered from a Japanese server that was rare to begin with. Anyway, this is what's happening...

- This guy, I'll name him Joe(not his name), runs in and stands next to an item he wants
- One after another [young] players appear and run up next to items they want, 7-8 of them, some with the young title off but dressed the same
- House falls
- 90% of the players get disconnected
- The loot is gone when you get back in and everyone stands around complaining about being disconnected

Well, it happened again yesterday, but this time I was on my stealther and so I wanted to find out more. The young players all ran in from a few screens away so I stealthed over and found the player gate they were coming from. I gate-jumped and found 3-4 more of them waiting for a port inside a public house. The house is nothing to look at, its sort of a sorting station for loot with some vendors out front.

I noticed a teleporter in the back so I went through that and found a rares museum and sure enough all of the identifiable named items are in the museum now, along with a lot of the other items we saw in the house. Remember that he was one guy so there was no way he could have gotten all of the items with roughly 40 people there(25% of those are him). The rares museum has his name on it.

It gets better, this guy is part of a guild that used to PvP and do other stuff. Since his arrival a few months ago it's become an idoc guild, and since they share info about IDOCs he finds out about a lot of them without looking himself. The words "use and abuse" come to mind about his playstyle.

ANYWAY - everything above is fine with me, I don't care and it's none of my business, but what I do care about is the being disconnected. What would you do if this guy shows up to an IDOC and everything starts to unfold as above, would you accept that you are also about to get disconnected due to whatever he is doing? It's not just me, it's 30 other people at a time it's happening to... but not him.

Once? Coincidence. Twice in a row? hmmm. Now that it has happened a third time and ONLY when he is there doing this stuff.. I call shenanigans.

Ahh that makes sense, I was looking at the code and began to realize why the data isn't saved. Trying to load a shard's worth of data for each sign(or step) isn't going to work, lol.

Thanks for the detailed writeup, now I get it. I'm not easily told something can't be done but I'm also able to listen to more experienced people... when it makes sense to me, which it does now.

Thanks again.

Try Kali's script for MIBs and you might feel differently, have you tried it out? It's really well done. If you have then I appologize but I'm not understanding what part of the idea is not possible since I've seen the idea working for another item.

Her script tracks you around an active map and marks MIB locations based on the MIBs you scan in your pack. The only real conversion I'm talking about is to place marks on the map at house locations instead of MIB locations. She grabs the MIB coordinates via the MIB gump, an IDOC version could drag the coordinates via the sextant gump and/or journal. To put it over the top as an IDOC tool the house markers would need to change color over time so that I know when it's time to go check that house again.

This tool would do nothing else, it wouldn't move your character for example, it's just a mapping tool that tells you where you can look and to not miss houses. Tell you what, my scripting skills are limited but I'll try to figure out how to plot sextant co-ords to an external file with a timestamp and will then try to get a map image, like Kali's MIB map, to plot those co-ords on it. The last step would be the marker color changes depending on how old the marker timestamp is. I hope that's more clear.

P.S. I'm not looking for a rail type system because I can run around much faster myself and rails in Fel get you killed, eventually. I only need to know where ALL houses are and to know what ALL their conditions are and when I last checked them ALL... too much to ask? :)

Not standalone, no. I don't think I made myself clear though...

- no pathfinding wanted or required, this is not an afk tool
- map movement is possible, you can see it in action via the script "MIB SOS MASTER" by Kalinex. Download the sosmaster file, I think it's hosted on the easyuo site(http://www.easyuo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=97820#97820).
- I think the script picks up the location from the MIB text when opened and plots a dot on the map. A version for Idocs could check a sextant each time a sign is checked and grab the text from that.
- Plotting dots on the map is also possible via easyuo, that script does it already. Here is a screenshot http://thedemigod.com/pics/lazysos5.jpg

As you can see in the screenshot the orange dot by #3 is the player character, the dot moves when the player does. Also, over by #10, are green dots for MIB locations... this could be on the map for IDOC locations. A function that turns the dots from one color to another over time to let you know how long ago you last checked the house would be ideal.

That MIB script is almost exactly what I would like for IDOCs actually, just switch MIBS for IDOCS and voila. Again, the map co-ords can come from a sextant reading since there is no MIB to read and house signs don't give you co-ords.

OMG thank you!

I use the toggle option and never looked at that menu before, but that's exactly what I wanted to know. TY.

General UO Chat / My bank balance is what?
« on: November 12, 2014, 04:58:16 PM »
No, this isn't a thread for figuring out who is the richest among us, heh. I'm sure that's not me anyway. A pet peeve I have when at the bank trying to figure out how much I have in the bank is that it's such a pain sometimes to figure out.

- saying "balance" only tells you how much you have in loose, non-check, gold
- sometimes spending money, or dying, takes money from checks stored in the bank. Those 20x 1 mil checks might only be 18x 1 mil + 2x a lesser amount thanks to this mechanic. I hate checking each check individually!

A better way
- Buy a house placing tool and put it in your bank box
- Click on the tool and select classic house(or any other type)
- look at the bottom of the gump for your "bank balance" reading

That reading is accurate and includes all loose gold and checks, regardless of if they are in packs etc. Is there another way or command for getting your correct bank balance quickly? Unfortunately I don't have an ATM vendor yet nor is such a vendor as secure as the bank box if you, for whatever reason, close your account.

Scripting Chat / Finding more decaying houses - tools
« on: November 12, 2014, 04:41:45 PM »
I've personalized a looting script to my Fel-side playstyle and, with the help of all the finder and other tools, am doing well. I'd like to do better! I'm not hardcore about IDOCs but I am hardcore about being efficient in what I do. I've been to about a dozen IDOCs in the past 2 weeks but, with the help of this type of tool, could reduce my time spent looking a great deal.

While my scripting skills are not yet up to the challenge of keeping up with my ideas/desires I do know what/how I want to improve my chances at good loot and the first step is finding those idocs. There is a shard full of houses to check for IDOCs and, as Pokemon would say, gotta catch them all! I was also inspired by kal's awesome SoS mapping tool, you'll see some similarities between the following and her fishing related SoS script.

ME wandering all over checking houses vs COMPETITION using custom tracking scripts and websites etc isn't working for me! hehe

What the tool should do
- Have a map of the facet with a spot marked with my current location that updates as I move around
- Place a small dot on the map of the co-ords of every house sign I check, regardless of condition (script can use sextant to get co-ords?)

So far this mapping feature is already part of Kal's script but for MIB locations. It was also part of UOAM but required UOAssist and I'm not even sure UOAM is working anymore. Even if it is, it will not do the rest of what I'd like anyway. Point is this wouldn't be entirely new, there is inspiration out there.

- Set a timer on each house I check that changes their pin color based on how long it's been since I last checked them. ie: Green = like new and checked within the past 3 days. yellow = was like new but not checked in over 3 days. Red = not checked in over 7 days(or however long it takes to go from like new to IDOC).

This part I have not seen on any script, yet, though I'm sure it exists. It would only require a timestamp be recorded at the time of last check and then used to set marker color when rendering the markers. That's it!

With this type of tool you could take one quick look and know which areas you need to head out to and you could make sure to run by all of the houses you know are there. Difficulties I would anticipate include performance issues and marker/map sizing issues since some houses are spread out but some are quite clustered. The thing I do NOT like about the in-game mini map is how small an area it shows, this tool would show the entire facet and allow me to know which sections need attention. I could even section each off and mark a rune to each area if I wanted... that would make it easier to use rails for those who do.

Does such an idoc mapping system exist already? a player in game tipped me off to a Japanese site which does something similar but it downloads the data to a database for all of the players with access to the tool to use on their site. I think that's a bit much if you're just tooling around solo and not an addict of IDOCs. I know this is the type of tool people would not want to share, greed makes people nasty sometimes, but I will likely end up building my own version if nobody else knows of such a script... you could help me not waste weeks doing what's already been done :)

Ah so the tool exists but it's for elite's only?  :'(

hehe, I won't try to write my own then but I do need to finish my list so I'll keep plugging. Thanks for sharing that.

Sweet, I needs it for what I'm working on right now!  ;)

As I type this I'm realizing just how complicated a task it is to have a complete list. The crates I was just messing with, for example, well when you put them down they get a TYPE assigned like all items do but if I move it and it changes direction... that's a different item TYPE. Obviously you need both types if you work with crates then. Some items, like the luck globe, don't turn when you drop them but they can be turned by the house tool, again... different type of item when turned. What a pain..!!

I've been working on tailoring my scripts(ie:hacking and mangling code) for the past couple of hours instead of playing the game, lol. On my to do list is getting Item types for various rares/desirables. A lot of items are in the item database but many are not, such as doom artifacts. http://www.uoguide.com/Artifacts_%28Doom%29

Code: [Select]
SET %doomArties ???_???_???
SET %goodDeeds ???_???_???
nope, doesn't work :)

I'd eventually like to work up a list of item TYPEs, which shouldn't be too hard it I use your tool while running around the vendors in Luna. My concern is that these items sometimes share a TYPE with non-artifacts, for example. Adding "Axe of the Heavens" to such a list would do me no good if it also loots regular double axes. I know I can make the script delve into the item properties but I'd rather keep the delving to a minimum.

Anyway - I'm very interested in your item TYPE list if you want to share it, I'm compiling my own the hard way right now. I did modify your tool so that it shows me items in a slightly different format in the %text window. example:
Code: [Select]
AUD = Metal Box$Weight: 124 Stones$...etc
By making the info all appear on one line with the TYPE up front I can create a list pretty quickly. The trouble is the LEFT side of the menu can't be copied/pasted/saved, right click on that side doesn't work. Neither does ctrl+c etc. I would love to export it to notepad++ when done.

Ultimately I'm going to populate variables with the item types, ie: set doomArties xxx_xxx_xxx etc. so the easier it is to do the more likely I am to make it perfect... and I'll share! :)

DAoC pre-Atlantis expansion was some of the best times I've had in game, not far behind dread days in UO. I remember disliking fighting an alb chanter when he was holed up in a tower and able to kill you in the stairs with AOE before you could get anywhere near him. Reminded me of a guy named GOHAN on Atlantic, from the guild SSJ during dread days, if you saw him/them you were going to have a bad time... it was awesome :)

At one point Mythic promised to release a pre-Atlantis ruleset but they never did, one bad expansion can DESTROY a game. Sure it was fun for a bit but dat grind OMG. It's not as bad now, you can bypass a lot of the group intensive stuff, which is good considering 90% of the playerbase quit not long after trials was released.

Well this one just made my day, thanks TM!

Unless another tool already exists for this I'd like to use it to help build a list of FINDTYPE, saved to a file. I'm trying to come up with a list of TYPE for rares, rewards, etc. The EUO documentation is great with crafting types but the finder is missing some items... or maybe I just want to create some lists baby!

I noticed you can't copy/paste the text on the left side, or clear it/remove an item, how could I do that?

IDOC tools / Re: TrailMyx's IDOC Monitor/Looter v1.0c
« on: November 10, 2014, 02:49:24 PM »
You're welcome.

So I've had the chance to run the looter script at a competitive IDOC now and I have some observations/ideas about how I'd like to improve it even further, IDOCs are competitive and so every tool/edge counts. Firstly, I got PWNED by another scripter. I don't know if he's using the elite version or something else entirely but he destroyed me in grabbing those items... but that's OK because from failures comes improvements right?

details: Atlantic IDOC near Vesper yesterday, house contents visible, several chests locked down next to the west wall making them 2 tiles from us standing outside... ie: within grabbing range. I set all 4 of these chests as priority and had the script already looting when the house fell. He had 3 pack animals and was standing on top of me and he easily snagged all 4 chests before my script could. I think I *almost* got one of them, it appeared on my cursor momentarily, but no go. Yes, my script is working fine, I did get some other things as I walked away from the others.

What I learned: Straight up vs his script I will not be getting much loot and he's a regular(with friends) so I need to speed my script up and/or come up with some tactics to improve my loot skillz. I noticed that he did not appear to pathfind at all the entire time, no stutter steps etc. On my end, from the time I hit begin looting, pathfinding was telling me I couldn't get there so perhaps my script was in the pathfind loop while his was already taking chests, but I don't know.

Ideas: I'm not sure the elite version will be for me since I do not plan on using pack animals, I prefer fel idocs where pack animals are often a hindrance instead of a tool. That means improving what I've got until it's competitive so some ideas...

- I can create a hybrid setup so that some items are specifically targeted by ID while others are targeted by Type. This would help at private idocs and in getting items I did not originally see.

- I can then create a quick destruction loop which finds chests which can be destroyed and quickly destroys them. I believe it's faster to destroy a chest than it is to grab and drag it to a pack(not sure on that?). Since I'm already scanning for specific item types I could then grab any that fall out of the chests which others may not have set as priority. Also, since I'm not using pack animals, I won't fill up with containers or items I don't want. This will also increase the amount of looting required to fully clear the idoc. Right now a player with packies can sometimes clear the entire idoc in seconds thanks to chests. I think someone once said "if you can't make things better, make them worse"... and I think this would create quite the mess. Players who grab items using the ctrl/shift method would also be out of luck since they would see a lot of items stacked on the same spot.

- I have other ideas I'd like to try, including one radar-like idea that might be a game changer in fel, but I'm not sure it's OK to post them here. It's not breaking any EA rules but it is taking advantage of a game mechanic that EA likely didn't intend on(I noticed it while fishing of all things). I'd rather share that idea with an interested admin before posting it, in case it shouldn't be posted. In fact I don't know if I should be posting any ideas like this here so I'll stop there, let me know.

I'm not so greedy as to hoard ideas but I do want the most from my tools so any suggestions, especially for Fel side idocs, are appreciated. IDOCs are a competitive sport! If only my scripting skills could keep up with the ideas I want to try.... soon!
