Xbox 360 / XBOX 360 game recommendations?
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:52:24 PM »
So I recently purchased an XBOX 360 for a deal.  So I'm wondering what's good out there for it.  I mainly wanted to get back into Halo, but I'm unsure of the other 360-specific platform games that might be worth while.

If only "certain" people would answer this truthfully.  lol.

Anyhow, I scored a 7 (answering truthfully).  My highest score was in leadership. How about you?

Site News / Please welcome the new Elites!
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:16:01 PM »
It's been a while since we've added new Elite members to the ranks.  We're being extra careful these days.  Thankfully, along comes a couple individuals out of thin air that really made an impact on our site.

Crome969: Crome has brought great enthusiasm to the site with his scripts, special projects and general participation with the site in a very positive manner.  It's great to see an older member decide one day to jump in and just contribute.

Neo:  Or frneo if you remember him from before.  He's brought some great new scripts to the site and is always helpful with people asking questions.  He's quick to take recommendations and add them.

So please take a second to welcome our new Elite members!

Thanks guys!

Off Topic / Closing my Netflix account for the last time.
« on: July 17, 2011, 07:06:52 PM »
Back when Netflix raised their price by $1, I shut down my account for several months.  But now that they are GREATLY raising their subscription prices, I've shut my account down for good.  I guess their stock price of $250/share just isn't good enough.  Hmm.

Anyhow, I hate when companies forget about what got them successful in the first place.

Goodbye Netflix.

General Discussion / General Rules for bugs
« on: June 19, 2011, 12:32:36 PM »
From the desk of Newsman:

Quote from: Gimlet/Newsman
Access to this forum is limited to those people that contribute to it.  Sharing your account, SUO Forum access or any knowledge you gain from this forum will result in losing your access to this forum and possibly SUO.
DO NOT BOTHER OTHER SUO STAFF ABOUT THIS FORUM.

Submissions of new bugs may be made to Gimlet or Newsman. Your submission should detail, step by step how to replicate the bug.  It should be clear, and may include pictures if they are essential.  Whether a bug is worthy of access to this forum and any subforums is fully at the discretion of Gimlet and Newsman. Bugs should be new and totally unpublished elsewhere.

You are responsible for keeping up to date with these rules. The rules may change at any time, for any reason.  Failure to adhere to the rules as they are is grounds to have your access revoked.

From the desk of the staff:

If you do find a bug that's potentially useful, you need to PM either Newsman or Gimlet with the information.  I wouldn't expect alot of discussion to happen here.  Chances are good that any discussion will be moved into the secret members-only section or bug moderators section.

Also, you must adhere to the normal site rules.  You must listen to and obey the staff at all times.  I've watched some of the discussions of bugs over at the other sites, and that adolescent attitude will not be tolerated here.  We are a bunch of grown-ups here, so we expect the members to respect our wishes.

Also know there is not a guarantee that any public bugs will be posted.  That's entirely at the discretion of Gimlet or Newsman.

These rules are fluid and can change at any moment.  If you haven't already, please take a moment to look over the site rules again.

Please remember that bug submission should be through PM to either Gimlet or Newsman

The question was always KDE or Gnome, but now there's no question for me.  Neither.  I still hate the bloated feeling of KDE, but they really booted it with Gnome 3.  I think they were trying to go for an OS that is more tablet friendly, but in the process they created more button clicks, and hid existing functionality.  At this point, there are many things in Gnome 2 that you can no longer do in Gnome 3.

1) Icons are massive without the ability to resize them.
2) Loss of context clicking
3) Limited widgets (no widgets in Gnome2 mode)
4) Additional clicking to do the same thing
5) Loss of desktop icons(can be hacked back, but sheesh, why?  Don't be KDE)
6) VERY limited configuration or customization.  Terrible actually.
7) Compatibility mode:  Where in the hell is the "logout"?  Jeebus.

People might recommend that you use the "compatibility" mode for Gnome2, but they have removed the widget functionality, and menu bar control.  It's pretty much useless.

For me, the only option at this point to get some of the Gnome2 functionality back is to run XFCE.

So in summary, the Gnome team has a lot of work to bring the compatibility mode to a usable point.  And they really must re-think the button click count and general obscurity.  I have a couple large monitors, and it just doesn't make sense to use my vast desktop area to look like a Google/iPhone.  Yuck.

Shame on Fedora for making this the main GUI.  What the heck were they thinking????

Anyhow, this will be my running rant regarding this pathetic GUI.

So do yourself a favor, if you don't have xfce as an option under F15 do (as root):

Code: [Select]
yum groupinstall xfce

Reboot and log in under XFCE.  Problem solved.

Site News / Endless Night promoted to a Global Mod
« on: May 03, 2011, 05:57:09 PM »
So it's been a long time since we made any changes or additions around here.  I've noticed the site number start ticking up again for unexplained reason, so I thought it would be cool to find one of our veteran members and offer them a position on the staff.  Endless Night graciously accepted the position.  He's a top-tier scripter, and a good even person to have wield the old ban-hammer.

So take a second to welcome the latest addition to the staff!
