The year was 2003, I entered the world of Sosaria as a teenager looking to kill some time. Back then they called me an AOS noob, and i wore that title with ignorance. I started out like most of you..killing skeletons and lizardmen without any real direction. It wasn't long before i discovered the world of Mining....I hated it. But we gotta try everything! For a long time I wasn't very good at any one thing, I had a bunch of skills puchased up to level 30 so I guess for a while i was a swordsman tamer healer paladin mage? I wasn't aware that there was a skill cap or a stat cap. Then one day, that all changed....
About 6 or 7 months into the game my brother (he introduced me to the game) and I were wandering around Brit bank on the Great Lakes server and a PVP guild was openly recruiting. My brother and I had allways considered PVP, but we'd get destroyed and lose our gear every time we even tried to enter Fel. This seemed like a great opportunity! So him and I both signed up, he was a fencer and I was a macer.
The guild was called the Dark Guard or [D^G]. They were a very very very minor pvp guild on the shard at the time, but they were willing to teach us the ways of PVP, we did so many duels on the roof of their battle house it wasn't even funny. We attempted several champ-spawns a week. I say the word "attempted" because we happen to share a shard with a guild known as the Black Company or BC. They always seemed to know when we were going to be doing a champ spawn, and right around the end of the 3rd phase, they'd fly in out of nowhere and destroy us all! The only successful champ spawns i can remember were either obscure ones, like bog or deceit, or we could wake up at Server UP. I think back then it was 7 AM? We could usually get one done around that time.
Time passed, and I became a pretty adept macer for the time, I managed to farm enough gold to get "artied out" with my jackals collar, helm of insight, serpents leggings, and berserkers maul. I had the legendary scrolls for the skills that mattered. Then one day D^G fell apart. I was only a minor member of the guild, I didn't really have a say in any policies, but the guys at the top had some kind of falling out and the guild just seemed to dissipate.
After that, My brother and I just went on our own for a little while(that was so boring!). Then one day we came across an old buddy from D^G, he asked us to join with him in another guild. I was confused, because he wasn't showing a guild tag. But we knew the guy, and trusted him, so we went through his fel gate and found ourselves at the guild house. It didn't take me long to figure out where I was...I was on BC island, and i was surrounded by red BC. I had to resist my fight or flight response that had been burned into me after months and months of fighting these guys. They ruined almost every champ spawn and harrower i have ever attempted! But the sad fact was...without the organized PVP, I was bored. So my brother and I joined the biggest most fearsome guild on the GreatLakes shard, and it was....fun!
They had boats in T2A, BOATS! they just recalled in on those boats and were only a few screens from every champ spawn! That's how they always seemed to come from nowhere and why when we put lookouts at the enterences to T2A, we never saw anything! Members of BC were taking shifts ghosting champ spawns and refreshing the boats every few days. Everything was super organized and JD(the Guildmaster) seemed to always be ahead of the game. His character name in game was "Sir Bart", and it use to be the goal of everyone in D^G and i'm sure other guilds to kill "Sir Bart" and screen shot it. I have to say some of my best times in UO were running with D^G and BC, there is alot to be said for organized PVP warefare and I cannot wait to get back into it!
And thats why I'm here! I'm playing on a freeshard now, so I don't have access to any of my old characters. Time to build some new ones! I also don't seem to know how to PVP anymore....I started out on my new shard finding vendors that have some of the gear that I use to have so i could "recreate" my macer. But apparently PVP is now all archers? ARCHERS?!? The beserkers maul is a joke, I found that, the helm of insight and a few other familiar pieces in what looked to be a "bargain bin" chest on a vendor for 2.5 mil. I have to relearn everything! But UO knowledge resources seem limited now. There aren't a whole lot video tutorials or dedicated websites that contain the "latest pvp strategies".
So i'll troll some forums and hope I can learn the play in this ML expansion and have as much fun as I did in AOS. I look forward to being apart of this community!
