UO is a massive, soul-sucking black hole; one which has seen the destruction of more hours of my life than I'm comfortable admitting in public. I thought I'd escaped in 2001, when a hacker on the Great Lakes shard cost me my small tower. The frustration I felt drove me away, and I figured I'd given it up for good, swearing that I'd never again pay a subscription for a game.
That held true even in the face of WoW - I've never paid a dime to Blizzard, and am generally happy that such has been the case. In 2003, however, I discovered UO freeshards - in my case, ABCUO. The freedom of having no skill caps and being able to just play without worrying about paying $15/month was pretty amazing to me, and I kept on playing for almost 2 years. Gradually, I slipped away from playing due to a new relationship...
Well, now I'm back! One of my friends picked up on ABC, and once I heard that, I had to pay him a visit in-game. All the old EUO scripts I used were still around, but one script pointed me to winuo.org - and from there, I found a link to scriptuo.com. I honestly had no idea that other scripting enclaves outside of easyuo.com even existed.
Glad to have found a new place to hang, and look forward to talking to some of you.
