Returning to UO after mannnnny years

Hi everyone!

I'm Baron, a name-alias I got from playing UO actually, so many people I knew were calling themselves "Lord this", or "Lady that", I decided to be "Baron Genedin", and being the only person using a Baron title, people just eventually dropped the rest and called me Baron, and now that name is what I use on all my games now :) (Even some gaming friends call me that in person for as long as I can remember)

I’m keen to join this community and reconnect with Ultima Online after so many years away. The last time I played, I was just a kid basically, and I still have such fond memories of the game’s depth, scope, and incredible social experiences. It was my first true taste of an immersive RPG, and I’ve never found another game quite like it.

Back in the day, I spent my time as a crafter and a warrior on a shard in South Africa (when our internet wasn’t exactly international-ping-friendly before the Seacom cable, so we made do!). My friends and I used to hang out in mIRC to coordinate, pulling off all kinds of shenanigans and dungeon dives, I was terrible at pvp but my clan/guildies had my back, though I can’t even remember how or where we got scripts back then. I don’t think we even used voice chat much, which makes me appreciate how much we managed to accomplish just typing away.

Fast forward to now; I’m a software developer by day, and while I spend a lot of my gaming time in VR these days (chasing that next great immersive experience), I find myself missing UO’s incredible systems—inventory, crafting, combat, and everything in between. There’s just -something- about how immersive it all felt, and I’m ready to hit that nostalgia hard and dive back in.

Now I've launched up UO again, and I can't remember a thing! But I'm watching videos, and reading stuff, its slowly coming back to me

This time, I also want to explore the other side of the game: scripting and customization. With programming knowledge (which I’ve picked up since my first UO adventures), I’m eager to learn about scripts and how they work. I’m still completely new to this side of things, so I’m looking forward to diving into the resources and wisdom here on the forums.

Looking forward to connecting with the community!

- Thanks from this old (SO old now ) returning player
